Digital Infrastructure and the Digital CBD
The Blockchain Innovation Hub, along with The Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation, has successfully secured $2M for their project "Digital Infrastructure & the Digital CBD". This project and funding is part of the $44.6M awarded to RMIT University by the Victorian Government that aims for new investment in student facilities, industry innovation and activities focused on jobs, enterprises and community solutions for the future, including the renewal of RMIT’s #CBDNorth campus.
The "Digital Infrastructure & the Digital CBD" project will focus on how the COVID-19 crisis has accelerated the adoption of digital technology and reshaped Victoria's geography. The project will build a research base on how businesses, non-profit organisations, municipalities, and policymakers can adapt to the post-COVID digital economy and directly engage the public on digital opportunities.
"The pandemic has accelerated the transition to a digital economy and we're excited to be leading research on the design of a powerful digital CBD that will enable Melbourne to continue to flourish as a great world city,” Blockchain Innovation Hub director Jason Potts said.
The project's primary outcome will be new ideas and insights to develop the future of Melbourne's CBD toward playing a pivotal role in a digital economy. This is from the perspective of citizens, residents, and consumers, from businesses (including universities), jobs (i.e., the types of employment) and investment. The research project will provide the foundations for a strategy for the continued evolution of the core part of a modern large city.
The project will also investigate the #cybersecurity issues that have arisen during the pandemic and provide the foundations for a strategy to support the ongoing evolution of a large modern city.
